A burst supply line under a kitchen sink will put water through the cabinet base, the subfloor and the wall cavity behind it inside an hour. What you can see is the part that matters least. The reason restoration is a trade rather than a cleaning job is that the water you cannot see — sitting in the wall base, under the tile bed, wicking up the back of the drywall — is what grows mould two weeks later, long after the carpet felt dry to the touch.
