Mold Remediation in West CovinaContainment under negative pressure, removal, then fixing the moisture that caused it.
- IICRC S520
- Negative pressure containment
- Moisture source corrected
Mould is a moisture problem wearing a biology costume. Spores are present in every building in California and always will be; what turns them into a colony is water and time. That is why remediation that removes the growth without finding the water is a guarantee of a repeat visit — and why the first question we ask is not "how much mould" but "where is the moisture coming from".
The removal itself follows IICRC S520. The affected area is contained in plastic sheeting and held under negative pressure with HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, so that disturbed spores leave through the filter rather than drifting into the rest of the house. Removing mould without containment is the single most common way a localised problem becomes a whole-house one.
Porous material with growth through it comes out — drywall, insulation, carpet pad, particleboard. Non-porous and semi-porous surfaces can often be cleaned. Everything comes out through the containment, the area is HEPA vacuumed and wiped down, and the space is left dry before anything is rebuilt.
One thing we will not do is tell you a colour identifies a species. "Black mould" is not a diagnosis; several genera are dark, and colour tells you nothing about what it is or how it should be handled. If identification matters — for a health question or a dispute — that is a laboratory's job, and the sample should be taken by someone with no financial interest in the remediation scope.
Questions
Mold Remediation — the two things people ask first.
Can I just use bleach on it?
On a hard non-porous surface, bleach may deal with what you can see. On porous material such as drywall it does not reach the growth inside, and the water content can make matters worse. It also does nothing about the moisture that caused it, which is the actual problem.
Do I need a mold test before remediation?
Not always. If growth is visible and the cause is obvious, testing may add cost without changing the work. Testing earns its place when growth is suspected but not visible, when someone in the house is unwell, or when a landlord, buyer or insurer needs independent documentation.
