The gold standard for neurological imaging. Discover unmatched clarity and precision with our 3 Tesla MRI technology.
A Brain MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive, painless diagnostic procedure that uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to produce detailed, highly accurate pictures of the brain and the brain stem. Unlike CT scans and X-rays, an MRI does not use ionizing radiation, making it an incredibly safe procedure for patients of all ages.
At Prime MRI & Diagnostics, we utilize state-of-the-art 3.0 Tesla MRI technology. This advanced hardware provides double the signal strength of standard 1.5T machines, allowing our radiologists to visualize microscopic neurological details. Whether detecting early signs of a stroke, identifying minute tumors, or mapping complex neural pathways, a 3T Brain MRI offers unparalleled diagnostic confidence.
Physicians rely on Brain MRIs because they provide the most sensitive and detailed imaging available for the central nervous system. It is the preferred imaging modality for detecting a vast array of neurological conditions. Your doctor may recommend this scan to investigate or diagnose:
Patients experiencing the following persistent or sudden symptoms are frequently referred for a Brain MRI to rule out severe underlying conditions:
Migraines or sudden thunderclap headaches.
Chronic vertigo or loss of balance.
Blurred vision, double vision, or blind spots.
Unexplained convulsions or epilepsy.
Numbness or tingling in the face, arms, or legs.
Memory loss, confusion, or speech difficulty.
Preparation for a Brain MRI is minimal. In most cases, you can eat, drink, and take your prescribed medications as usual. If your scan requires a contrast dye, you may be asked to fast for 4 hours prior to your appointment.
Important Safety Note:
Because the MRI uses a highly powerful magnet, all metallic objects must be removed before entering the scan room. This includes jewelry, watches, hairpins, hearing aids, and dental work (if removable). Please notify our technologist if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implants, aneurysm clips, or any metallic fragments in your body, as these may contraindicate the scan.
You will change into a comfortable medical gown and lie on a motorized table. A special coil, resembling a loose helmet, will be placed over your head. This device acts as an antenna to capture the detailed images of your brain.
The table will then slide into the wide-bore MRI machine. The machine will make loud knocking and thumping noises as it captures images—this is completely normal. We will provide you with noise-canceling headphones playing music to ensure your comfort. You must remain entirely still during the scan, as movement will blur the images. The technologist will monitor you through a window and can communicate with you via a two-way intercom at all times.
A standard Brain MRI typically takes between 20 to 30 minutes. If your doctor has requested a scan "with contrast," the procedure will take an additional 15 minutes to allow for the injection and absorption of the contrast dye.
There are no known biological risks associated with the magnetic fields or radio waves used during an MRI. There is zero radiation exposure. If a contrast dye is used, there is a very rare risk of a mild allergic reaction, which our medical staff is fully equipped to handle.
